The black box of an airplane

THE BLACK BOX OF AN AIRPLANE

The airplane black box is a machine, or rather, an electronic unit that is used in airplanes to record all of the information and data related to the flight. This black box, which is not actually black but rather orange or red to make it easier to find the plane if it is destroyed, allows one to figure out what caused an incident or accident.

There are two types of black boxes

The parameter recorders used to record flight data and the voice recorders, which are meant to record conversations in the cockpit. They are positioned at the rear of the aircraft because this is typically the component that will be preserved the best in the event of a ground or sea impact.

Operation of a black box

A beacon that goes off in the event of immersion is included in the black box: It sends out an ultrasonic signal to help locate the device when the two contactors are wet. Over a distance of approximately 2 kilometers, the signal travels at a frequency of 37.5 kHz at 160 dB per second for at least thirty consecutive days. It very well may be gotten up profundity of up to 6,000 meters.

Year of the black box's introduction

Since 1960, the black box has been used in aviation. It started out as a magnetic tape recorder and was gradually improved until 1990, when it was replaced by SSDs (electronic disks that allow for the storage of data). SSDs are thought to be more reliable because they can store more information in a smaller space, making them easier to protect.

The black box's price

The black box is designed to not be destroyed in air disasters and costs between 10,000 and 15,000 dollars. As a result, the data is protected by three layers of materials made to withstand shock, fire, and deep immersion.

Black box capacity

A minimum of 25 hours' worth of data from 28 to 1300 parameters (such as pressure, altitude, and so on) can be recorded in the black box and can withstand a fire with a temperature of 1100°C for an hour and a water pressure of more than 5000 bar. It has dimensions of 32 x 13 x 14 cm, a battery life of 6 years, and a weight of 4.5 kg.
